Ces maladies ne sont pas encore présentes en métropole mais sévissent à plusieurs endroits du globe (épidémie de Dengue à la Réunion et à la Martinique pour la France). Elles peuvent être importées par des voyageurs porteurs du virus. Si le moustique tigre pique une personne malade, il peut transmettre le virus en piquant d’autres personnes. Ce pourrait être le début d’une épidémie.

Pour quelles raisons ne traite t’on pas mon quartier, ma commune ?
- Le moustique tigre ne peut être éradiqué car ses larves sont résistantes à des conditions environnementales très défavorables.
- Les traitements ne sont déclenchés par les autorités sanitaires qu’en cas de risque de propagation épidémique (dengue, chikungunya ou zika). Ils concernent des périmètres limités et respectent des distances de sécurité avec les sites à risques (cours d’eau,…). Seuls les secteurs où un risque est identifié sont traités (lieux fréquentés par une personne malade durant sa période de virémie et où le moustique tigre a été décelé). Ils visent à supprimer les moustiques adultes (les œufs et les stades immatures de l’insecte ne peuvent pas devenir contaminants).
- Ces traitements ne sont pas une solution durable pour réduire la nuisance car ils n’ont aucun effet sur les œufs ni les larves de moustiques. Une nouvelle population de moustiques tigres (sains) apparaît donc dans les jours qui suivent l’opération.
- Traiter régulièrement présenterait deux inconvénients importants :
- Création de résistance aux traitements: les molécules risqueraient alors de ne plus être actives en cas d’épidémies.
- Risque d’exposer la population riveraine à ces insecticides par des traitements répétés.
